After a tough day of deliberation, the first round of judging is finally over – so here are the nominees for the SELECT Industry Awards 2018

The shortlist for the SELECT Industry Awards 2018 has been announced – and it’s packed with star names again.

A record number of entrants were received for the annual event, which will be held at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow on Friday 12 October. And the judging panel had a tough task whittling down the entries at The Walled Garden on Thursday 26 July.

Each judge had received copies of the entries beforehand and were duly invited to nominate their top choices for each of the seven categories. A lively debate then ensued before the final nominees’ list was drawn up. A round of face-to-face judging with another independent judge will now follow before the winners are announced in October.

The awards will be presented at a gala dinner, with more than 400 guests enjoying a dinner dance and top-class entertainment. As well as the established categories – which include Apprentice of the Year and Lifetime Achievement – there are new awards for best Small, Medium and Large Contractor.

Chair of the judging panel, Stan Johnston, said: “Judging was extremely tough due to the high standard of all entries. “Each nominee has demonstrated extremely high levels of dedication, commitment and skill. We look forward to speaking to them all and revealing the winners on 12 October.”
