Captain Callum enjoys West side glory at golf day

Bunkers and banter were well to the fore as Members and guests battled it out for the 2026 President’s Cup, sponsored by Luceco Group, with the West of Scotland team reclaiming the famous silver trophy

Jubilant Callum Bassindale was all smiles as he hoisted the President’s Cup aloft following a day of fierce but friendly competition at our annual golf competition.

The West of Scotland captain accepted the prestigious trophy from new SELECT President Darren Crockett after an extremely close result at Dunblane New Golf Club in Perthshire.

Sponsored once again by Associate Member Luceco Group, a packed field gathered on the first tee on Monday 27 July as 60 golfers from across Scotland battled it out for glory.

Split into the traditional East and West teams, the Stableford competition saw Member firms joined by guests and sponsors as they competed across 18 holes.

After a nip-and-tuck contest, the scorecards were pored over by our adjudicators, Training Development Adviser Stuart McKelvie and his son, Membership Representative Mark.

With the scores checked and rechecked, it was announced that the West team had triumphed by 320 points to 310, with captain Callum presented with the trophy after high tea in the clubhouse.

The Member from Ross-shire Engineering (RSE) also received a selection of whisky to mark the victory, with the three best performers on each team taking home various prizes too.

Members also scooped goodies for the longest drive and nearest the pin courtesy of sponsors Vectaire and Curv360, plus as always there was a special endeavour award for the highest round of the day by a SELECT Member.

After presenting the prizes, Darren said: “The President’s Cup is the highlight of the year for many Members, and once again we enjoyed a superb day of golf, played in the right spirit with plenty of friendly rivalry.

“I’d like to thank Luceco Group for sponsoring the day once again and I’m sure the East team will be looking for revenge when we return in 2027.”
