Pounds for Peru
SELECT adventurer Linda Rolfe gets her fundraising for the Electrical Industries Charity off to a great start
After two months of activity, I’ve been bowled over by the generosity and kindness of everyone who’s contributed to my Macchu Picchu fundraiser, so thank you!
As you’ll know from the last issue of CABLEtalk, I’m undertaking a five-day trek through the Peruvian Andes next September in aid of the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC).
So far I’ve raised around £500 towards my target figure of £5,000 thanks to Members and colleagues. As well as my fundraising page, I’ve boosted the coffers with a couple of bake sales and by painting nails for friends and family.
It means I’m one step closer to Peru and, more importantly, that the EIC can continue to do great things for electricians in need, such as:
SUPPORTING the family of a two-year-old cancer sufferer with financial aid and a trip to his favourite place, Peppa Pig World
KEEPING a retired electrical worker and his family warm by helping to fund a new central heating boiler, and
HELPING an addiction and anxiety sufferer on the road to recovery by funding a counsellor and rehab.
Stories like these are the reason I’ll be tackling the jungle next year – so please dig deep to help the EIC continue making a difference in the lives of so many people.
Upcoming events
I’m currently busy organising a race night, footballers’ Q&A evening and Ladies’ Day, with raffle prizes donated by local businesses. A few online quizzes and games are also coming up, so keep following SELECT on social media for the latest updates.
As far as training goes, the walking boots are being broken in and I’ll be spending the next few months trudging through snow and mud – although I don’t plan any camping trips until the summer.
My Santa list is also a bit different this year, with the usual perfume and make-up replaced with things such as a head torch, waterproofs and a sleeping bag. It’s different but also exciting, so thanks again for all the generous donations. Merry Christmas everyone!
