January was a busy month for our SELECT tutors as they took to the road, delivering the first set of 18th Edition training courses to delegates across Scotland. Our team’s travels began in Ayr, Cambuslang and Aberdeen in the first week, before they held more courses in Dundee, East Kilbride and Edinburgh.

The main topic of discussion has been our Wiring Regulations course, No218, which has been produced in response to the new 18th Edition.

Members were keen to learn of any updates, so we duly dispatched our six technical advisors – Malcolm Duncan, Jim Cornwall, Mark McLaughlin, Stuart McKelvie, Darren Sweeney and Keith Hagan – to act as dedicated tutors.

As well as the 18th Edition, our team is currently busy hosting other courses, including inspection and testing. And we’ve also helped several non-Member companies with their enquiries about training, including one who asked us to supply sessions for nearly 40 staff.

There’s been a great response so far, with all the courses receiving great feedback. This enthusiasm has been reflected in the number of courses and attendees, which have seen an encouraging rise compared to previous years.

As CABLEtalk went to press, we had 49 wiring regulations courses alone scheduled for the first quarter of 2019, compared to just eight at the same time last year. We estimate we’ll be delivering 63 BS 7671 courses by the end of March, with an average of 12 delegates per session – so that’s a total audience of around 756 people who will benefit from our knowledge and advice.

We’ve now scheduled more courses in the Shetlands, Islay, Dumfries, Irvine and Inverness, as well as Penicuik. And we’ll even be heading up to Stornoway in the spring, as well as any other areas where there’s demand.
