Select Industry Awards 2015

A YEAR TO CELEBRATE...10 YEARS UP FOR THE SELECT AWARDS

The great and the good of the electrical industry in Scotland gathered at the 10th anniversary SELECT Industry Awards in Glasgow on Friday, October 9. In time-honoured fashion, the special gala dinner and awards ceremony were an opportunity for the industry to come together and recognise and reward the very highest standards set by electrical contractors, young apprentice electricians and the manufacturers who push the product boundaries.

Crown House Technologies have scooped the highest honour at the 10th annual SELECT Industry Awards - after being named the Electrical Contractor of the Year.

The SELECT Member firm, which is the electrical division of construction giant Laing O’ Rourke, was singled out for the biggest prize in the industry in Scotland, winning the Best Electrical Safety Project category and was nominated in two others - Best Use of Training and Best Environmental Project.

Newell McGuiness, SELECT MD, said: “Crown House Technologies, who have won many honours at the SELECT Industry Awards in recent years, including Electrical Contractor of the Year, impressed judges once again with a high degree of experience, expertise and professionalism in everything they do.

Despite the financial challenges of recent years, which have hit the construction particularly hard, it is gratifying to see a SELECT Member company continue to invest in premier league standard training, safety and sustainable business practices.

Their entry which secured the Best Electrical Safety project, for no less than Scottish Power as the client, was an exemplar of the very highest safety standards and protocols for switching.”Newell also thanked the Member companies for entering the anniversary awards, the panel of judges, and the sponsors. He added: “We have the very great fortune of having an extremely committed and active membership, who each year surpass themselves with more and better quality entries to the Awards.

This year was no exception and we welcomed even more applications than the previous year, which was also a record. It seems we are raising the bar every year, which is great. I’ d like to thank them for their continued support, and also thank each and every sponsor for helping to put together the best event on the electrical industry calendar in Scotland.”This year we welcomed City Electrical Factors as a new sponsor to the Awards, which were also supported by the SJIB/Edmundson Electrical, Blue Sky Pensions, Ross Electrical, Electrical Safety First, MCS, the Scottish Government, ECInsurance and Scolmore.

Entertainment on the night was also first rate with a spectacular light and drumming show put on by the highly theatrical – and illuminated – Spark!, with other acts including the St Andrews University close harmony choir The Other Guys and Frank Holden’ s Sinatra Tribute Act. The three course meal included.

Hamish Miller, CABLEtalk publisher, said: “It was another stellar evening for the SELECT Industry Awards. With the added pressure of the 10th anniversary awards, we wanted to give the audience a memorable experience, and the entertainment on the night certainly lived up to the billing, especially Spark! who were absolutely fantastic.”

A special lifetime achievement award went to former SELECT President Archie Jay, and Keith Aitken, the journalist and broadcaster, was compere while current SELECT President Eric Rae gave the welcome address.
